Platelet rich plasma versus corticosteroid injection for plantar fasciitis: A comparative study
Foot (Edinb). 2015 Dec;25(4):235-746 patients (60 heels), with intractable plantar fasciitis resistant to traditional conservative treatment, were randomized to receive a steroid injection or platelet-rich-plasma injection. The purpose of this study was to compare these two treatments at 3, 6, and 12 months following injection in terms of pain and function. The results of this study displayed significant improvements in both groups up to 12 months following injection. At both 3 and 6 months, these improvements were comparable between both groups, however, the platelet-rich-plasma patients displayed significantly better Roles-Maudsley, VAS pain, and AOFAS Ankle and Hindfoot scores at 12 months following injection.
