Platelet-rich plasma: does it help reduce tunnel widening after ACL reconstruction?
Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc. 2013 Apr;21(4):824-9. doi: 10.1007/s00167-012-1980-z. Epub 2012 Apr 1040 male patients with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) instability who received femoral and tibial 9mm tunnels were randomized to receive either platelet rich plasma (PRP) or control. At a median of 14.7 month follow-up it was found that both groups had significant increments in femoral and tibial tunnel diameter from baseline; however, no significant differences were found between the two groups. With regards to clinical outcomes, no significant differences between groups were found in functional, stability, and pain outcomes.
