Nailing the Outcome: A Comparative Study of Proximal Femoral Nail Anti-Rotation-II and Trochanteric Fixation Nail in Unstable Intertrochanteric Femur Fractures.

100 patients with Boyd and Griffin type III unstable intertrochanteric femur fractures were randomized and analyzed to receive either trochanteric fixation nail (TFN) or proximal femoral nail anti-rotation-II (PFNA-II). The outcomes of interest were operative time, intraoperative blood loss, radiological union time, and functional outcome assessed using the Harris Hip Score. Other outcomes included implant-related and postoperative complications. Outcomes were assessed at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively. Overall, the results of the study revealed that PFNA-II demonstrated shorter operative time and lower intraoperative blood loss, while functional outcomes, union times, and complication rates were comparable between the two fixation methods.
