Does Proximal Adductor Canal Block Provide Better Analgesic Efficacy than Distal Adductor Canal Block in Patients Undergoing Knee Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

Seven randomized controlled trials involving 400 patients undergoing knee arthroplasty were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing proximal versus distal adductor canal block. Outcomes of interest included pain intensity at rest, pain during movement, cumulative morphine consumption, adverse events, and functional measures such as quadriceps strength. Proximal ACB demonstrated superior pain relief at rest at 2 hours and 24 hours post-surgery but showed no differences in cumulative morphine consumption or pain during movement. The findings suggest that proximal ACB may provide short-term analgesic benefits with no added risk of adverse events compared to distal ACB.
