The Effect of Providing Audiovisual Surgical Information on Decisional Conflict in Patients Undergoing Plate Fixation for Distal Radius Fractures
Clin Orthop Surg. 2021 Mar;13(1): 18-23.Fifty patients with acute distal radius fractures were randomized to receive an audiovisual surgical information video plus standard information (n=25) or standard information only (n=25) to reduce decisional conflict. The primary outcome of interest was decisional conflict measured using the Decisional Conflict Scale (DCS). The secondary outcome of interest was the Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) score. Outcomes were assessed 2 weeks post-treatment. Results revealed statistically significantly lower DCS scores in the audiovisual group compared to the control group (p=0.001). However, no statistical differences were observed between the two groups in DASH scores at 2 weeks (p=0.654).
