48 patients undergoing total shoulder arthroplasty were randomized to receive either propofol-remifentanil anesthesia (n=24) or sevoflurane-remifentanil anesthesia (n=24). Outcomes of interest included postoperative pain on a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), volume of patient-controlled analgesia (PCA), fentanyl consumption, and the incidence of adverse events. All outcomes were similar between the two groups.
