A Randomized Study on the Prophylactic Use of Acetaminophen to Prevent Fever after the Removal of Drainage Tubes for Lumbar Surgery.
Orthop Surg. 2023 Feb;15(2): 440-447.190 patients with lumbar spinal disease undergoing lumbar surgery were randomized to receive prophylactic acetaminophen (n=91) or no treatment (n=92) for the prevention of fever after drainage tube removal. Demographic characteristics and surgical outcomes were compared between the two groups, as well as the incidence of fever. Prophylactic acetaminophen significantly reduced the incidence of fever compared to the control group (15.4% vs. 32.6%, p=0.006). No differences in demographic and surgical outcomes were observed between the two groups.
