Perioperative administration of gabapentin for shoulder arthroscopy: a prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study

OE Journal. 2013;1(19):33 AANA J. 2011 Aug;79(4 Suppl):S43-5070 patients, undergoing shoulder arthroscopy, were randomized to receive either gabapentin or a placebo 1 hour prior to surgery and then twice a day for 2 days postoperatively. Following assessments over a 2 day period, the results displayed that there was no significant difference in pain scores between the 2 groups, indicating that the dose of gabapentin used was not effective in treating postoperative pain in shoulder arthroscopy patients.
