Efficacy of preoperative home use of 2% chlorhexidine gluconate cloth before shoulder surgery
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery; 2011; 20: 928-933100 patients scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery were randomized to receive either 2% chlorhexidine gluconate-impregnated cloths (treatment group) or a shower with soap and water before surgery (control group). The results of the study indicated that individuals in the treatment group had a significantly less positive culture rate prior to surgery. However, it was also found that no infections occurred in any of the patients at 2 month follow -up.
