Can Gabapentin Help Reduce Postoperative Pain in Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair? A Prospective, Randomized, Double-Blind Study
Arthroscopy. 2010 Sep;26(9 Suppl):S106-11. doi: 10.1016/j.arthro.2009.11.010. Epub 2010 May 5.52 patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair were randomized to receive either 300 mg of gabapentin or a placebo two hours prior to surgery. Up to 12 hours, pain in the low dose gabapentin group was significantly lower than pain experienced in the placebo group. Side effects and postoperative fentanyl consumption were similar in both groups.
