Postoperative rehabilitation versus early mobilization following scoliosis surgery: A single-blind randomized clinical trial.
J Orthop Sci . 2023 Mar;28(2):308-314.Forty patients undergoing scoliosis surgery were randomized to undergo either an intensive rehabilitation program with early mobilization (RG; n=20) or early mobilization alone (MG; n=20). The primary outcomes of interest were the length of stay and pain at rest, with movement, and at night on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes included axillar, epigastric, and subcostal thorax mobility, functional reach test, distance walked, and Scoliosis Research Society-22 scores. Pain at rest and with movement, length of stay, and Scoliosis Research Society-22 (pain, self-image, mental health, and satisfaction) scores were all significantly better in the RG group.
