Does the choice of approach for hip hemiarthroplasty in geriatric patients significantly influence early postoperative outcomes? A randomized-controlled trial comparing the modified smith-petersen and hardinge approaches

48 elderly patients with femoral neck fractures were randomized to either a group receiving a minimally invasive hemiarthroplasty (Smith-Petersen) or an invasive hemiarthroplasty (Hardinge). The results indicated that the minimally invasive procedure did not provide significant improvements in early postoperative outcomes, such as hip mobility and pain reduction. This study further indicated that the postoperative outcomes depended more on the surgeons familiarity with the procedure and less on the actual procedure.
