Post-operative blood salvage with autologous retransfusion in primary total hip replacement
J Bone Joint Surg Br. 2007 Aug;89(8):1092-7190 patients undergoing total hip replacement were enrolled, and randomized to either receive two size 12 Medinorm vacuum drains or an ABTrans autologous re-transfusion system (post-operative salvage). The results at the mean 7 week follow up indicate that post-operative salvage results in a reduced need for homologous blood transfusion, following total hip replacement. This successful method was cost-effective, safe, and easy to use.
