Performance of Porous Tantalum vs. Titanium Cup in Total Hip Arthroplasty: Randomized Trial with Minimum 10-Year Follow-Up
J Arthroplasty. 2015 Jun;30(6):1008-13111 patients eligible for primary cementless THA were randomized into two groups receiving either a cementless porous-coated titanium monoblock cup (control) or a porous tantalum monoblock cup. The purpose of the study was to determine how these two components compare after 12 years in terms of radiological and clinical outcomes. Results indicated that monoblock designs do not detrimentally affect long term stability, and that the porous tantalum monoblock cups display good fixation, survivorship, and less radiolucent lines than the control components.
