Effectiveness of polydeoxyribonucleotide injection versus normal saline injection for treatment of chronic plantar fasciitis: a prospective randomised clinical trial

40 patients with a clinical diagnosis of chronic plantar fasciitis were randomly allocated to either receive polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) or normal saline injections into the heel, once per week for a total of 3 injections. The purpose of the study was to determine if PDRN injections were a safe and effective treatment for this pathology as compared to a placebo. Results indicated that after 4 weeks, there were no significant differences in either Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain or Manchester-Oxford Foot Questionnaire (MOXFQ) scores. However, at 12 weeks, results for both outcome measures significantly favored the PDRN group compared to the saline group. No treatment-related complications were observed in either group.
