Minimum 10-year survival of Kerboull cemented stems according to surface finish
Clin Orthop Relat Res. 2008 Feb;466(2):332-9310 hips scheduled for total hip arthroplasty were randomized to receive a polished or matte finished femoral stem to assess survival rates between these finishes. The results from these patients were also compared to results from 123 hip replacements using a satin finish femoral stem. 10 year postoperative assessment indicated that both polished and satin finished femoral stems had reduced revision rates compared to matte finished stems. Polished stems also had significantly better overall survival rate when compared to matte stems.
