Pneumatic compression with foot pumps facilitates early postoperative mobilisation in total knee arthroplasty
International Orthopedics; 2011; 35; 995-100080 elderly patients undergoing total knee replacement (TKR) were randomized to receive either a A-V impulse system (AVI), which is a mechanical prophylaxis in the form of a foot device, or no treatment. The 3-month follow up results indicated that there was a significant reduction in soft tissue swelling in the AVI group in comparison to the non-AVI group. Additionally, it was found that the AVI group had significantly increased agility and mobility in comparison to the non-AVI group.
