Intra-Articular Platelet Rich Plasma vs Corticosteroid Injections for Sacroiliac Joint Pain: A Double-Blinded, Randomized Clinical Trial
Pain Med. 2022 Jul 1;23(7): 1266-1271.Twenty-six patients with sacroiliac joint pain were randomized to either the corticosteroid injection group (n=11) or the intra-articular platelet-rich plasma injection (PRP; n=15) group. The two primary outcomes of this trial were pain on the numeric pain rating scale (NPRS) and functional disability using the Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire (ODI), measured at 1, 3, and 6 months. Significant differences were reported at 1, 3, and 6 months for pain scores and at 1 and 3 months for ODI, in favour of the steroid group.
