Comparing Intra-articular Platelet-Rich Plasma With Hyaluronic Acid for the Treatment of Hip Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Seven randomized controlled trials including a total of 478 participants comparing platelet-rich plasma (PRP) against hyaluronic acid (HA) for hip osteoarthritis were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Outcomes of interest included functional scores such as the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and Harris Hip Scores (HHS). Overall, the results revealed that the WOMAC and VAS pain scores at 6 months favored the PRP group. All other outcomes at all time points were similar between the HA and PRP groups. These findings indicate that PRP therapy may provide benefits while conferring fewer risks for the treatment of HOA.
