Platelet rich plasma in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair: A prospective RCT study, 2-year follow-up
J Shoulder Elbow Surg (2011) 20, 518-528.53 patients undergoing shoulder arthroscopy for complete rotator cuff tears were randomized to receive either intraoperative platelet-rich plasma (PRP) application or control (standard surgery without PRP), in order to test the hypothesis that PRP can improve tendon healing in these patients. Short-term functional recovery and pain was improved in the PRP group, but differences were not significant by the 2 year follow-up. Healing rates between the two groups were similar.
