Effectiveness of physiotherapy plus acupuncture compared with physiotherapy alone on pain, disability and grip strength in people with carpal tunnel syndrome: A randomized clinical trial.

Forty patients with carpal tunnel syndrome were randomized to receive either physiotherapy plus acupuncture (n=20) or physiotherapy alone (n=20). Outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Boston Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (BCTS), Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (QuickDASH), and grip strength. VAS pain scores and QuickDASH scores post-treatment were significantly better in the physiotherapy plus acupuncture group. There were no differences in BCTS scores and grip strength improvement between the two groups.
