Dr. Salisbury discusses the effectiveness of PhysioDirect telephone assessment and advice services for patients with musculoskeletal problems
2256 patients were randomized to explore the effectiveness of telephone services as initial treatment of muskuloskeletal problems. Patients were randomized to receive PhysioDirect primary assessment or the pathway of usual care. Results indicated that the PhysioDirect group experienced faster physiotherapy intervention if necessary and equal clinical effectiveness, but patients were slightly less satisfied with the access to physiotherapy.
