Proximal femoral nails antirotation, Gamma nails, and dynamic hip screws for fixation of intertrochanteric fractures of femur: A meta-analysis

14 RCTs were identified for inclusion in this study comparing dynamic hip screw (DHS), gamma nail, and proximal femoral nail anti-rotation (PFNA) treatment options for intertrochanteric fractures. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to compare operative time, fluoroscopy time, blood loss, length of hospital stay, fixation failure, operative fracture of femur, later fracture of femur, reoperation, mortality and other complications. The results indicated PFNA offered the lowest rate of fixation failure, less blood loss, and shorter length of hospital stay, while DHS has a lower rate of complications compared to Gamma nail. Further research is needed to strengthen the evidence base before definitive concussions can be made.
