Pertrochanteric femoral fractures treated with a dynamic hip screw or a proximal femoral nail: A randomised study comparing post-operative rehabilitation

108 patients with a pertrochanteric femoral fracture were randomized to receive treatment with the dynamic hip screw (DHS) or the proximal femoral nail (PFN). At 4 months, a greater proportion of the PFN patients had regained their pre-operative level of walking ability than the DHS patients. However, the median operation time was significantly shorter in the DHS group than the PFN group. There were no other differences between the two groups in terms of both peri-operative and post-operative outcomes.
