Antirotation proximal femoral nail versus dynamic hip screw for intertrochanteric fractures: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies

Epub 2013 May 23.5 studies (n=499) comparing proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) and dynamic hip screw (DHS) internal fixation in the treatment of peritrochanteric fractures were included in this meta-analysis to compare the effects of these two treatments on mortality, blood loss, operation time and complications. Pooled results indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in operation time or mortality between treatment of peritrochanteric fractures with DHS internal fixation and PFNA; however, PFNA yielded significantly less blood loss and fewer complications compared to DHS.
