Comparison of pericapsular nerve group (PENG) block with fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB) for pain control in hip fractures: A double-blind prospective randomized controlled clinical trial

Fifty two patients scheduled for hip fracture surgery were randomized to receive a pericapsular nerve group block (PENG, n=30) or fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB). The primary outcomes of interest were postoperative pain measured with a visual analogue scale (VAS) and postoperative analgesic requirements. Patients in the PENG group had lower VAS scores at 15 minutes and 12 hours postoperatively. There were no significant differences in VAS scores at other time points. The PENG group demonstrated lower total morphine consumption postoperatively.
