Efficacy of periarticular multimodal drug injection after medial opening-wedge high tibial osteotomy: a randomized, controlled study

70 patients scheduled for medial opening-wedge high tibial osteotomy were randomized to either periarticular multimodal drug injections or to no injection. The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of periarticular multimodal injections on reducing postoperative pain up to 14 days after treatment. All patients received patient controlled analgesia (PCA) with fentanyl postoperatively. Results demonstrated significantly lower VAS pain score at 6 hours after surgery in the injection compared to no injection group, but this significant difference diminished thereafter.
