Comparison of peripheral nerve block with periarticular injection analgesia after total knee arthroplasty: a randomized, controlled study
Knee. 2014 Aug;21(4):848-52210 patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were randomly divided into two treatment groups: Peripheral Nerve Block (PNB) or Periarticular Injection Analgesia (PAI). Patients in the PNB group received combined peripheral nerve blocks of both the femoral and the sciatic nerve, while patients in PAI received a mixture of local anesthetic, morphine and dexamethasone. Post-operative pain was assessed to compare the two methods of analgesia after total knee arthroplasty. Results indicated similar analgesic effects in both treatment groups.
