Efficacy of periarticular injection of bupivacaine, fentanyl, and methylprednisolone in total knee arthroplasty: A prospective, randomized trial

40 patients with bilateral knee OA, scheduled for a simultaneous bilateral total knee replacement, were randomized to receive preoperative periarticular injection of bupivacaine, fentanyl, and methylprednisolone in one of the knees. It was observed that the side in which injections of analgesic cocktail was given, the patients experienced lesser pain and improved functional outcomes in the post-operative period, demonstrated from 4 hours to 4 weeks after surgery.
