Percutaneous Electrical Stimulation Improves Chronic Knee Pain and Function: A Systematic Review and Meta-analyses.
Clin J Pain . 2025 Jan 1;41(1):e1254.Eight studies including 742 patients with chronic knee pain were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing percutaneous electrical stimulation (PES) versus control or sham interventions. Pooled outcomes of interest included post-treatment and follow-up pain intensity and functional improvement. PES significantly reduced pain post-treatment and at follow-up, and significantly improved function post-treatment and at follow-up. These findings suggest PES is effective in reducing pain and enhancing function in adults with chronic knee pain.
