The effectiveness of pelvic floor muscle training on lumbar function and muscle performance in sedentary women with lower back pain: a randomized controlled trial.

Sixty sedentary women with nonspecific lower back pain (LBP) were randomized to receive either no intervention (n=20), core muscle training alone (n=20), or a combination of pelvic floor muscle (PFM) and core training (n=20). The primary outcome was trunk muscle endurance. Secondary outcomes included activation of deep lumbar stabilizing muscles (TrA, LM, PFM), pain levels using VAS, and muscle thickness changes. Outcomes were assessed at baseline and after four weeks of intervention. Overall, the results of the study revealed that both core training and combined training significantly improved muscle endurance and reduced pain after prolonged sitting, with the combined training group showing the most comprehensive improvements. These findings suggest that including PFM training may enhance lumbar rehabilitation strategies in sedentary women with LBP.
