80 elderly patients with lateral patellofemoral (PF) osteoarthritis (OA) were randomized in a double blinded fashion to receive either control treatment,which consisted of a BioSkin Q Brace with patellar realigning strap removed, or an active treatment, which consisted of a realigning BioSkin Q brace with the strap applied. The results of the 18-month trial indicated that there were no significant differences in regards to pain, function or stiffness outcomes between the two groups. Additionally, it was found that patients wore the brace for more than 3 hours a day, and the majority experienced little adverse effects.
