Paired Online Rehab Enhances Recovery After Geriatric Hip Fracture .
Strengthening recovery: the impact of paired exercises in geriatric hip fracture rehabilitation-the PaLMe project.
Eur Geriatr Med . 2025 Jun;16(3):999-1011.Ninety-three older adults recovering from hip fracture surgery were randomized to receive paired exercises via the PaLMe program (n = 44) or individual exercises (n = 49) during hospitalization. The primary outcome was walking ability, measured by distance walked and assistance required. Secondary outcomes included self-efficacy, motivation, adherence, complications, and patient satisfaction. Outcomes were assessed over an average hospital stay of 5.6 days. Overall, the results of the study revealed that paired exercises led to significantly greater improvements in walking distance, self-efficacy, and motivation. The findings suggest that pairing patients during online rehabilitation enhances both physical and psychological recovery and is a feasible strategy for improving hospital-based post-hip fracture rehabilitation.
