60 patients were randomized to determine the efficacy of platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Patients were allocated to receive repair either with or without added PRFM. Pain and narcotic use were monitored in the recovery room following surgery, structural outcome was MRI-assessed 3-5 months postoperatively, and final follow-up of functional outcomes was performed at least one year postoperatively. Results indicated there were no significant improvements in any outcome measurement with the use of PRFM, and UCLA scores were observed to be significantly reduced in the PRFM group.
