2017 OTA Annual Meeting: A Randomised Controlled Trial Comparing the Thompsons Versus the Exeter® Polished Taper Stem and Unitrax® Head in the Treatment of Displaced Intracapsular Fractures of the Hip: The WHiTE 3: HEMI Trial

OE Journal. 2017;5(20):4964 patients, over the age of 60, with an intracapsular fracture of the hip and scheduled for hemiarthroplasty, were randomized to receive either a cemented, Exeter modular stem with a Unitrax femoral head, or to receive a cemented, Thompson monoblock stem. Groups were assessed for quality of life on the EQ-5D at 4 months postoperatively. No statistically significant difference between groups was observed in EQ-5D scores at 4 months, both including and excluding cases of mortality.
