2023 OTA Annual Meeting : ∆ Reamer-Irrigator-Aspirator (RIA) versus Autogenous Iliac Crest Bone Graft (AICBG) for the Treatment of Nonunions: A Multicenter Randomized Trial

OE Journal. 2023;11(20):2093 patients with long bone non-union or bone defects requiring bone grafting were randomized to receive bone grafting with an autogenous iliac crest bone graft (AICBG; n=49) or with the use of a reamer-irrigator-aspirator (RIA; n=44). The primary outcome of interest was harvest site pain, measured on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes of interest included union rate, functional outcomes, complications, graft volume and reoperation. The results showed that while functional outcomes, non-union, and complications were similar between the two groups, harvest site pain at post-operative day 1 and graft volume was significantly in favour of the RIA group.
