2023 OTA Annual Meeting : The Role of a Dedicated Pain Coach in Improving Outcomes Following Orthopaedic Trauma: A Randomized Controlled Trial

OE Journal. 2023;11(20):18212 orthopaedic trauma patients were randomized to receive standard pain management tapering or pain management tapering plus the inclusion of a dedicated pain coach as part of the care team. The outcomes of interest included pain scores and opioid consumption, up to 3 months post-operation. The pain coach group had a significantly higher proportion of patients with improved pain compared to the control group. Opioid consumption was lower in the pain coach group, however, this difference was not statistically significant.
