2019 OTA Annual Meeting: A Prospective Clinical Trial Comparing Operative versus Nonoperative Fixation of Minimally Displaced Lateral Compression Pelvic Fractures

OE Journal. 2019;7(20):16Lateral compression (LC) pelvic fractures are common, and often best management is unclear. The authors randomized 94 patients to surgery (n = 44) or non-operative treatment (n = 50). Most fractures were LC-1 type fractures. Outcomes were the 10-point Brief Pain Inventory (BPI), the 100-point Majeed pelvis score. Surgery resulted in a 0.9 reduction in BPI score and a 7.7 score improvement in the Majeed score. Overall, it was unclear whether these benefits reached clinical significance. Further research is needed to help elucidate this.
