2019 OTA Annual Meeting: The Impact of Skin Suture Pattern on Incision Perfusion Using Intraoperative Laser Angiography: A Randomized-Clinical Trial of Ankle Fracture Patients

OE Journal. 2019;7(21):275 patients undergoing open reduction and internal fixation procedures for ankle fractures were randomized to receive wound closure via a simple interrupted, vertical mattress, horizontal mattress, Allogwer-Donati or running sub-cuticular suturing pattern. The outcomes of interest were mean incision perfusion and mean perfusion impairment. The study results found the running subcuticular suture pattern to result in the favourable incision perfusion and perfusion impairment outcomes compared to all other suture patterns.
