2016 OTA Annual Meeting: Efficacy of Peri-Incisional Multimodal Drug Injection Following Operative Management of Femur Fractures

102 patients with an acute femur fracture and scheduled for surgery were included in this study to determine the analgesic efficacy of peri-incisional multimodal drug injections. Patients were randomized to receive a peri-incisional multimodal drug injection (400 mg ropivacaine, 0.6 mg epinephrine, 5 mg morphine) or no injection. Patients who received the injection had significantly reduced pain 4, 8, and 12 hours postoperatively and a reduction in narcotic consumption over the first 8 hours after surgery.
