OTA 2015: No difference in steel vs. bioabsorbable screws for ligamentous Lisfranc injury .
A Randomized, Prospective Comparison of Bioabsorbable and Steel Screw Fixation of Lisfranc Injuries
40 patients with acute, closed, unstable ligamentous Lisfranc injuries were randomized to receive either steel or bioabsorbable screws for fixation. The purpose of the study was to compare long-term clinical and radiological outcomes of the two screw types. Steel screws were routinely removed within 9 months of insertion as per the study protocol. Results demonstrated that the screw types offered similar efficacy in the treatment of these injuries, with respect to function, pain, and radiographical outcomes.
