2014 OTA Annual Meeting: Midshaft Clavicle Fracture Fixation: Comparison of Pin Versus Plate

OE Journal. 2014;2(21):3661 patients with a displaced midshaft clavicle fracture were randomized to either plate or intramedullary pin fixation. The purpose was to compare patient-reported functional outcome between the two groups over 1 year of follow-up. Of the 61 randomized, 29 had adequate follow-up data. Within these patients, assessment on activities of daily living (ADL), the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, Short Form Physical Component Score (SF-PCS) and EuroQol 5D (EQ5) were improved significantly from baseline to 1 year. There were no significant differences between outcome measures at any time point in the trial.
