OTA 2014: Short arm favourable to long arm casting for A2-OTA type distal radius fracture .
Clinical Trial in the Treatment of A2-OTA Type Fractures of the Distal Radius by Casting
100 patients with A2-OTA type fracture of the distal radius were randomly assigned to receive either long or short arm casting. The purpose of this trial was to compare elbow function between both casts at 6 and 18 weeks post-intervention. Results revealed fewer patients who received the short-arm cast demonstrated limited forearm range of motion (supination and pronation) and limited elbow range of motion (flexion and extension). No complications were reported in either group.
