2013 OTA Annual Meeting: Locked Plating Versus Retrograde Nailing for Distal Femur Fractures: A Multicenter Randomized Trial

OE Journal. 2013;1(16):44156 patients, aged 16-90 years of age, with A1-3 or C1 distal femur fractures were randomly assigned into 1 of 2 groups to compare the effectiveness of treatment with retrograde nailing or locked plates. Results demonstrated no significant difference between either treatment options in any of the functional results, but a trend towards better outcomes in favour of retrograde nailing was noticed. Additionally, Short Musculoskeletal Function Assessment score difference was above the minimum clinical relevance in favour of nailing.
