Once-Weekly Injection of Low-Dose Teriparatide (28.2 ug) Reduced the Risk of Vertebral Fracture in Patients with Primary Osteoporosis

OE Journal. 2015;3(6):28 Calcif Tissue Int. 2014 Feb;94(2):170-5. doi: 10.1007/s00223-013-9777-8. Epub 2013 Aug 21316 primary osteoporosis patients were randomized to receive a 28.2ug injection of teriparatide or placebo injection (1.4ug teriparatide) once-weekly for 3 years, to determine the effects of teriparatide on vertebral fracture prevention and lumbar spine BMD. Results indicated that teriparatide reduced the risk of vertebral fractures and increased lumbar bone mineral density compared to placebo, but it also resulted in higher total adverse drug reactions.
