Walking shoes and laterally wedged orthoses in the clinical management of medial tibiofemoral osteoarthritis: A one-year prospective controlled trial

66 patients suffering from tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) were randomly allocated to an orthotic intervention using either a lateral wedge orthotic or a neutral orthotic. This study was conducted to assess the efficacy of orthotic use in the treatment of osteoarthritis. At one year, both groups demonstrated improvements in pain, stiffness, and physical function sub-scales of the WOMAC index, while also demonstrating improvements in walking and stair climbing tests.
