Lack of diversity in orthopaedic trials conducted in the United States
J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2014 Apr 2;96(7):e56Data from 158 United States randomized controlled trials, investigating 37,625 patients, was analyzed in this systematic review to evaluate the inclusion of, and the reported rates of race and/or ethnicity in orthopaedic evidence. Despite the diverse population in United States, the findings of this analysis demonstrated a deficit in the reporting of data on race or ethnicity by American orthopaedic randomized controlled trials. These findings indicated that orthopaedic trials should incorporate the inclusion of diverse populations, and report this data accordingly.
