Epub Ahead of Print
JSES Rev Rep Tech. 2026 07-Sep;():. 10.1016/j.xrrt.2026.100773Study Summary
4 studies including 181 patients with Mason type II radial head fractures were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing operative versus nonoperative treatment. Pooled outcomes included the Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS), elbow range of motion (ROM), complications, reinterventions, and quality of life. Operative treatment did not significantly improve elbow function or ROM compared with nonoperative management. Additionally, no significant differences were observed in complication rates, reinterventions, or quality of life. Overall, operative treatment demonstrated no clear clinical advantage over nonoperative management, although its potential role in preventing long-term osteoarthritis remained uncertain.
