Operative versus nonoperative treatment for displaced midshaft clavicular fractures: a meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials

OE Journal. 2015;3(2):9 Arch Orthop Trauma Surg. 2014 Nov;134(11):1493-500.6 randomized controlled trials (507 patients) were included in this meta-analysis to compare operative versus nonoperative treatment of displaced midshaft clavicular fractures. The intent of this analysis was to determine whether operative treatment yields superior functional outcome, satisfactory fracture healing, and minimizes adverse events compared to nonoperative methods. While operative treatment did significantly improve functional outcome and fracture healing, it was accompanied by a greater rate of adverse events.
