Open reduction internal fixation versus percutaneous pinning with external fixation of distal radius fractures: A prospective, randomized clinical trial

OE Journal. 2013;1(11):161 J Hand Surg Am. 2011 Dec;36(12):1899-906. Epub 2011 Nov 353 patients presenting with distal radial fractures were randomized to management using open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) or external fixation and percutaneous pinning. Internal fixation was accomplished using either a dorsal plate or a volar locking plate. ORIF provided significantly lower scores on the patient-reported wrist evaluation (PRWE). There were no differences in DASH scores, range of motion, grip strength, or radiographic evaluation.
